If you’ve ever wondered how to truly live like Jesus and engage in authentic servant leadership in your workplace, this book is an essential must-have! In “Servant Leadership: What’s It All About? Living God’s Word in Today’s World,” Emma Childers, a gifted author and respected former executive, skillfully connects nine foundational Scriptures illuminating Jesus’ daily work in direct connection with our own. She then creatively outlines six vital traits that infuse contemporary organizational leadership insights with the absolute wisdom and authority of God’s Word.
Emma’s gift of clear, concise writing is evident as she eloquently sets the highest standard, God’s standard, to raising the bar of serving and leading like Jesus in very practical ways in the workplace. As someone deeply involved in educational leadership, I was immediately compelled to implement Emma’s teaching, based on Scripture, into practice during my most recent leadership meeting. Equipped with the book's rigorous practical applications and well-crafted role plays and examples, I was able to guide discussions and decisions effectively, through the art of asking questions that allowed space for others to lead and draw from their own insights.
I wholeheartedly recommend this book for anyone desiring to live out their faith in actionable ways in the workplace, which sets them apart from their previous experiences. Emma adeptly teaches you how to do this with clarity and precision, offering invaluable tools that hold the potential to significantly enrich your life and positively reshape the way you serve and lead!

Emma L. Childers is the author of Servant Leadership: What’s It All About? originally written in 2002 and recently self-published in October, 2023. Ms. Childers set out to compare leadership styles and practices from the academic and business world to that of Jesus’ Ministry. Torn between her Christian Faith and the practices she experienced and often emulated; she came to a cross-road of whom to follow. It was the Enron fall from the pillars leadership dynasty that led her to conduct this academic research project as a cathartic process.
It was never meant to be a published work, although she prepared it in that manner, using it only on small occasions and mentioning it only in passing.
During a time of prayer, when seeking divine help for training material needed to train small group leaders at Hope Church in Memphis, TN, her home church was she reminded of that book that lay on the bottom shelf of her bookcase. Picking it up and looking through it, she found everything she needed. It was likely saved electronically, but that version was not available. Steps were taken to scan and convert the file and proceed. Interestingly, during several rounds of editing, the content is applicable today.
Biblically based. the book/course follows Jesus’ Ministry as a Servant Leader and shows the parallels to today’s world through practical applications that engage participants in small group settings.
The learning curve to self-publishing was arduous, but through a referral, she was able to find a local printing company to produce the book in a manner where she retained control over the production.
